Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimin Abdol-Hossein Khosrowpanah, Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, paid tribute to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the founder and first President of India’s National Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), during his visit to New Delhi at the invitation of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. The ceremony was held to mark the 67th anniversary of the passing of this prominent and symbolic figure in cultural relations between Iran and India.
the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) was established on April 9, 1950, by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who served as India’s first Minister of Education after independence. As an autonomous body, the ICCR was founded with the fundamental aim of revitalizing and strengthening cultural ties and mutual understanding between India and other countries around the world through cultural, educational, and scientific exchanges.
 
The ICCR plays a pivotal role in promoting Indian culture abroad and facilitating cultural interactions with other nations. Through its programs, it provides opportunities for distinguished visitors to engage with leaders and intellectuals from various countries.
 
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a leading figure in India’s independence movement and a renowned personality in Persian literature and culture, made significant contributions to fostering respectful and friendly relations between Iran and India.
 
During the session, Professor Khosrowpanah elaborated on the role and position of Iran’s Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in the realm of scientific and cultural governance in Iran. He engaged in discussions with Indian officials regarding the prospects for preserving, deepening, and enhancing cooperation between these two civilizations in the fields of science and culture.
 
This visit comes as Iran and India are seeking to expand their cooperation in various domains, including science and culture, reinforcing their historical civilizational bonds.
